Mon, 10 Nov 2025 Post Office Horizon IT contract extended for another year

It is paying £41m to the Japanese-owned company Fujitsu to use the Horizon system until March 2027.
The Post Office has agreed to continue using the Horizon IT system for another year, paying a further £41m to Fujitsu until March 2027. This decision has been met with criticism due to the system's role in wrongly prosecuting over 900 sub-postmasters. Despite plans to replace Horizon, a new supplier is not expected to take over until July 2026 at the earliest, and the contract may be extended to 2028. The Post Office had previously planned to build an in-house alternative called NBIT but has shifted its focus to buying software from external suppliers. A government spokesperson stated that replacing Horizon is a complex process that cannot be done overnight.
