Tokyo and Beijing are in a dispute over the Japanese prime minister's remarks about Taiwan.
* Japanese stocks related to tourism and retail fell after China warned its citizens against traveling to Japan due to a dispute over Taiwan.
* Shares in department stores, including Mitsukoshi and Isetan, plummeted more than 10%.
* Other well-known brands like Shiseido, Takashimaya, and Uniqlo also fell by more than 5% in morning trade in Tokyo.
* Japanese airlines Japan Airlines and ANA Holdings were down, as well as theme park company Oriental Land that runs the Tokyo Disney resort.
* The share price falls came after China's Education Ministry told students to monitor their safety situation in Japan and Chinese airlines offered refunds for flights to Japan.
* The dispute between Beijing and Tokyo has deepened with Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi suggesting military action if China attacks Taiwan.
