Mon, 17 Nov 2025 Ukraine to import US liquefied natural gas via Greece

Vital supplies are due to start flowing from the Balkans as energy infrastructure faces sustained Russian attack.

* Vital US liquefied natural gas supplies will start flowing into Ukraine via a pipeline across the Balkans this winter.
* Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who said Greece is working to increase the flow of American LNG to its terminals to "replace Russian gas in the region".
* European Commission plans to ban all imports of Russian gas by 2027, arguing revenue funds Russia's war in Ukraine.
* Zelensky announced that deliveries of US LNG would begin in January and that Kyiv had allocated €2bn for gas imports from European partners and banks under European Commission guarantees.
* Greece is working with the US to increase the flow of American LNG to its terminals.
* The Soviet-era Trans-Balkan pipeline links Ukraine to LNG terminals in Greece via Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria.
* Zelensky met President Emmanuel Macron in France, where they signed a letter of intent for Ukraine to acquire up to 100 Rafale jets.
* Ukrainian military said it had taken control of three more villages from Russia, but reports could not be independently verified.
* Fighting continued overnight with six people reportedly killed in Russian attacks in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Donetsk regions of Ukraine.
