Tue, 18 Nov 2025 Cloudflare apologises for outage which took down X and ChatGPT

"We apologise to our customers and the Internet in general" the web infrastructure company said.

* Thousands of users reported issues with various websites, including X (formerly Twitter) and ChatGPT, due to a problem affecting Cloudflare.
* The outage occurred after a configuration file designed to handle threat traffic did not work as intended, causing a "crash" in Cloudflare's software handling traffic for its wider services.
* A wide range of apps and websites were impacted by the outage, including Grindr, Zoom, Canva, and Downdetector itself.
* The outage was described as a "catastrophic disruption to Cloudflare's infrastructure" by Alp Toker, director of NetBlocks.
* Cloudflare stated that there is no evidence that the outage was caused by an attack or malicious activity, but acknowledged it as a technical problem.
* The company apologized for the outage and said some services might still encounter errors as they came back online.
