Wed, 19 Nov 2025 Hyundai boss says White House apologised to him over Georgia raid

The carmaker's boss said the raid was "a bad surprise" but that the firm will keep investing in the US.

* Hyundai CEO José Muñoz said that the White House phoned him personally to apologize for a massive immigration raid at a factory in Georgia.
* The governor of Georgia also called Muñoz, saying "I don't know what happened, this is not state jurisdiction".
* More than 300 South Korean workers were detained in September's raid on a battery plant operated by Hyundai and LG.
* Workers were held in detention for over a week before being flown home after the South Korean government intervened.
* Muñoz believes that someone made a phone call to falsely report illegal immigrants at the plant, leading to the raid.
* The company remains committed to manufacturing in the US despite the incident.
