Sat, 22 Nov 2025 Daily Mail publisher agrees to buy Daily Telegraph for £500m

The publisher of the Daily Mail says it is in talks to buy the Daily and Sunday Telegraph for £500m.

* The Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) has agreed to buy the Daily and Sunday Telegraph for £500m.
* The deal needs approval from Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, who will "review any new buyer acquiring the Telegraph in line with the public interest and foreign state influence media mergers regimes".
* DMGT chairman Lord Rothermere says he "long admired" the Daily Telegraph and plans to make it a global brand under his ownership.
* The Telegraph's editor Chris Evans is expected to remain in his role, with DMGT giving him resources to invest in the newsroom.
* The purchase would see the Telegraph become part of DMGT's portfolio of media organisations, including the i Paper, Metro, and New Scientist.
* DMGT says the Telegraph will remain editorially independent from its other titles.
* A Liberal Democrat spokesperson is skeptical about concentrating power in the hands of few owners, urging regulators to "rigorously examine" the terms of the agreement.
