Tue, 25 Nov 2025 Over 21s to get £12.71 an hour in minimum wage rise

The move has been welcomed, but some experts say it will not cover the current cost of living.

* £12.71: new hourly minimum wage rate for over-21s
* £10.85: new hourly minimum wage rate for 18-20 year olds
* £8: new hourly minimum wage rate for under-18s and apprentices (up from £7.65)
* 2.7 million people will benefit from the increases
* Businesses have warned that further increases to the minimum wages could result in hiring freezes
* Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the cost of living is still a major issue for working people
