Pub bosses have warned they face a sharp rise in business rates bills despite government support.
* Business rates will rise by £62,000 per year for Phil Thorley's pub chain.
* The government claims it is saving most "typical independent pubs" £4,800 per year with its changes, but analysis suggests business rates bills will increase by:
+ 42% for small shops
+ 45% for restaurants

* A firm's rateable value has increased for many businesses, and the phasing out of a Covid-era 40% discount from April will result in higher bills.
* The average business rates bill will increase by £62,000 per year for small pub chains like Thorley Taverns.
* Many firms are warning that the changes will lead to:
+ More closures
+ Fewer jobs
+ Lower growth
* Treasury spokesperson claims that a £4.3bn package of support is being provided to limit business rates bills.
* Business owners and associations are calling for further action, including:
+ Reducing VAT rates for the sector
+ Changing course on the business rates changes
