Mon, 01 Dec 2025 Regulator backtracks on 'ghost train' plan

Plans to ban passengers from the peak train service between Manchester and London are abandoned.

* The 07:00 GMT Avanti West Coast service from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston will continue to run with passengers.
* Network Rail and Avanti will be given permission to operate the service after listening to customer feedback.
* The ORR initially decided against running the service with passengers, citing concerns that it would "harm the overall performance" of the line.
