The Rest is Football will stream on Netflix during next summer's World Cup as part of a new deal.
Lineker had initially been set to front coverage of the World Cup for the BBC, but announced his departure earlier this year after an antisemitism row surrounding a social media post he shared. The post included a rat emoji, which has historically been used as an antisemitic insult. The visualized podcast will feature game analysis, special guests, interviews, and insights into the World Cup, with reporters dialling in from England's camp and fan zones. It will be filmed in a studio in New York. A version of the show will still exist on audio platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts during the World Cup, Netflix said. The deal marks the streamer's first significant foray into football coverage and an expansion of its podcast portfolio, which is seen as an effort to rival YouTube. Lineker described the deal as a "fantastic opportunity" to talk football every day on a global stage.
