Authorities say alleged fraud on the app has caused millions of dollars in losses.
Taiwan has blocked access to social media app Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote) due to concerns over online shopping scams and data security issues. The island's authorities detected over 1,700 fraud cases on the platform since last year, resulting in losses worth NT$247 million (approximately £5.9m or $7.9m). The app's operators, who do not have a local office, failed to meet Taiwan's data security standards and refused to submit a plan to improve their cyber-security measures. As a result, Taiwanese internet service providers were ordered to block access to the app, affecting at least three million domestic users.
