The new red, white and blue branding mirrors the colours of the Union Flag, and will start to appear from next year.
The Railways Bill, allowing for the creation of GBR, is currently going through Parliament. The government says it's renationalising the railways so they're "owned by the public, delivering for the public, not for private shareholders".
GBR will include an app that lets customers check train times and book trains without booking fees, as well as assistance for disabled passengers.
Seven train operators are already in public hands, accounting for about a third of journeys. The franchises being acquired include Greater Anglia, South Western Railway, and c2c.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said the new design represents "a new railway... focused entirely on delivering a proper public service for passengers".
The Rail Delivery Group welcomed the government's commitment to improving services for customers, saying they will continue to work with industry partners to support a smooth transition to GBR.
