Mon, 08 Dec 2025 Drop in cream sales at dairy as shoppers cut back

Guernsey Dairy's production manager credits the fall to people buying cheaper alternatives

* Sales of cream at Guernsey Dairy have fallen from 94,279 litres in 2020 to 89,095 litres in 2024.
* Production manager Dave Domaille blames consumers switching to cheaper varieties, saying they "are nowhere near as good" as the dairy's products.
* The company has seen a significant drop in cream sales during Christmas, from 18,000 litres to around 7,000.
* Guernsey Dairy halted cheese production in February due to high production costs and inability to find a profitable niche market.
* Operations manager Andrew Tabel said there is too much competition and the dairy can't compete with cheaper alternatives.
