Tue, 09 Dec 2025 Date set for challenge over second Gatwick runway

A legal challenge over plans for a second runway at Gatwick Airport will be heard over four days.

* A High Court judge has set January 2026 as the start date for a legal challenge against plans for a second runway at Gatwick Airport.
* The privately-funded £2.2bn scheme would enable the airport to handle around 100,000 more flights per year.
* Campaign group Cagne and Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign are taking action against the Department for Transport's approval of the plan.
* The DfT and Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) oppose the challenge, which will be heard over four days in January.
* The court rejected a request to delay the hearing until February or March due to barristers' unavailability.
