The levies are set to take effect on 1 January and will apply to goods like cars, clothing and appliances.

* Mexico has approved new tariffs on over 1,400 products from countries without a free trade agreement, including China, Thailand, India, and Indonesia.
* Tariffs will range from 10% to 50% on goods like metals, cars, clothing, and appliances.
* The measures aim to boost domestic production as agreed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
* Dozens of countries will be affected, including some that have trade disputes with the US.
* Mexico is in talks with the US to reduce tariffs threatened by President Donald Trump, which could reach 50% on steel and aluminium.
* A dispute between the US and Mexico over water from Rio Grande tributaries has led Trump to threaten a new 5% tariff.
* Beijing warned Mexico to "think carefully" before imposing tariffs.
