Most increases will be 20p or less and bus and tram fares will be frozen, the mayor of London says.
The cost of traveling on London's public transport will increase by 5.8% from March next year, with fares rising above the rate of inflation for the first time since 2021. The price hike affects Tube, Overground, and Elizabeth line services but not bus or tram fares, which will remain frozen until July 2026. Travelcards, including weekly and daily caps, will also remain unchanged until March 2027. Pay-as-you-go fares on the Tube will increase by up to 20p, with most rising by just 10p. The fare rise is a condition of a £2.2bn capital funding deal agreed between Transport for London (TfL) and central government in June. Critics have accused Mayor Sadiq Khan of burdening Londoners with increased costs, but he says the freeze on bus and tram fares will benefit those on low incomes.
