UK researchers will get a chance to develop applications for the tech giant's quantum processor.
Google has teamed up with the UK to give researchers access to its cutting-edge quantum chip, Willow. This collaboration aims to uncover new practical applications for the technology, which is expected to revolutionize computing. Researchers will be able to submit proposals on how they plan to use the chip, and work with experts from Google and the UK's national quantum lab to design and conduct experiments. The move comes as several companies, including Amazon and IBM, are competing to develop powerful quantum computers. Experts believe that giving UK researchers access to Willow will "accelerate discovery" and potentially lead to breakthroughs in fields such as chemistry, medicine, and physics. The UK government has committed £670m to support the development of quantum technology, which is expected to contribute £11 billion to the economy by 2045.
