Wed, 17 Dec 2025 Paddy Power Betfair to pay £2m over problem gambling failings

The Gambling Commission said Paddy Power Betfair did not act quickly enough when customers appeared to be engaged in harmful gambling
The commission identified several instances where the bookmaker failed to act on concerning behavior, including:
* A customer who staked £86,000 in just over two weeks without any manual review of their account
* A customer who deposited £25,000 in 25 days before being interacted with by the company
* A customer who placed over 300 bets for a total of £20,000 during an eight-hour betting spree The commission's director of enforcement, John Pierce, said the failure to act was "unacceptable" and that automation should not be relied upon to identify problem gambling. He added that the size of the payment reflected the seriousness of the failings. Flutter Entertainment claims it takes customer safety seriously and believes the issues highlighted by the watchdog will not be repeated. The company has introduced a new customer safety platform, which checks for concerning behavior in real-time. This is not the first time Paddy Power Betfair has faced regulator action, having been ordered to pay £490,000 last year for sending promotional push notifications to vulnerable customers.
