Fri, 19 Dec 2025 A 45% school bus fare hike is too much, says dad

Ambi Ambituuni now expects to pay more than £300 a term for his daughter's bus journeys.

* Ambi Ambituuni, a dad-of-two from Coventry, objects to Stagecoach's planned £75.60 monthly fare hike on the 85 bus route between Coventry and Rugby, which would equate to a 45% increase over a term.
* The current National Express weekly ticket for the NX Outer Zone - Rugby costs £22, while Stagecoach offers a seven-day Rugby & Daventry 'megarider' ticket priced at £18.90.
* Warwickshire County Council confirmed that the routes affected by the fare hike are subsidised services under contract to the council, and bus operators bid for the contract based on their commercial fares.
* A spokesperson for Warwickshire County Council advised parents to consider purchasing the seven-day or 28-day Young Person's MegaRider ticket as a cost-effective option.
