Re:dish Good Stuff in Stockport offers its members significantly discounted fresh and healthy food.
A customer of Reddish Good Stuff social supermarket in Stockport, Greater Manchester, says she can afford extras for Christmas thanks to the money she saves on her weekly groceries. Yazz Gough, 56, attributes the savings to buying fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices, which helps reduce her midweek shopping costs. The social supermarket, funded by Stockport Council and local businesses, charges customers £4 a week and has over 330 members. Members can choose one item from each table or area plus several items of fruit and vegetables. Reddish Good Stuff collects surplus food from large supermarkets and wholesalers, offering low-cost groceries to those struggling with the cost of their weekly shop. CEO Lynn Brandwood says the supermarket's emphasis on fresh produce and frozen items allows customers to create meals while saving money for essentials like rent, bills, and Christmas presents. Customers praise the store's ability to provide affordable, healthy food options, including seasonal items like strawberries and ice cream.
