Fri, 02 Jan 2026 Charity provides hot lunches as temperatures drop

Good Shepherd supports people all year round but the work is "even more important" in winter.
A Wolverhampton charity, Good Shepherd, has been providing hot lunches to vulnerable and disadvantaged people, including rough sleepers and families living in supported accommodation, as temperatures plummeted in the area. The charity's fundraising and development manager, Lucy Cox, said that food is provided throughout the year but becomes especially important during cold weather periods. Volunteers at the charity serve around 150 people twice a week and also run a breakfast club for rough sleepers three times a week. Good Shepherd relies on about 60 volunteers to operate its various services, which include providing a homelessness outreach service, a family food pantry, and a social enterprise cafe offering training and work opportunities. Cox emphasized that the charity's goal is to provide "sustainable and lasting change" for those in need, and praised support from local businesses as "invaluable".
