Thu, 08 Jan 2026 Sportswear firm Castore defends price of football kits

Tom Beahon, of sportswear firm Castore, says fans buy official shirts because they can afford to.
Castore co-founder Tom Beahon defends prices of replica football kits, saying that if fans can't afford them, market forces will dictate lower prices. He argues that higher costs are due to inflation, rising material prices, and increased investment in elite sports. "We live in a capitalist society," Beahon said, "and if people couldn't afford it, those prices wouldn't be charged." Castore has introduced entry-level product ranges to make official kits more affordable. Beahon also downplayed the issue of counterfeit kits, suggesting that technology will soon allow for authentic products with built-in microchips and digital solutions to engage fans.
