Thu, 15 Jan 2026 Serial rail fare evader faces jail over 112 unpaid tickets

Charles Brohiri pleaded guilty to travelling without buying a ticket a total of 112 times.

* Charles Brohiri, 29, has admitted to travelling without a ticket on Govia Thameslink trains 112 times.
* He pleaded guilty to 76 offences at Westminster Magistrates' Court and could face jail time.
* The total amount of unpaid fares and legal costs he may be ordered to pay is over £18,000.
* Brohiri's lawyers tried to have 36 previous convictions overturned due to a technicality but the court rejected this bid.
* A lay prosecutor can commence proceedings, as confirmed by Judge Nina Tempia in her written ruling.
* The offences span from February 2024 to November 2025 and relate to journeys between London and Brighton, and on Thameslink lines into Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
* Brohiri is also accused of continuing to dodge fares in late 2025 and early 2026, and was bailed with conditions not to be present on or attempt to access any train owned by Govia Thameslink.
* He is also accused of failing to pay fines worth £48,682 from separate prosecutions between August 2019 and April 2025.
