Fri, 16 Jan 2026 Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy departs after leading reboot

She oversaw the expansion of the franchise, including five feature films and new TV shows.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will step down after 14 years at the helm of the studio, which produces the Star Wars franchise. She has been replaced by Dave Filoni, who will take on the role of president and chief creative officer. Filoni credits Kennedy with overseeing the "greatest expansion" in Star Wars storytelling during her tenure. Under Kennedy's leadership, Lucasfilm produced several successful films, including The Force Awakens, but also experienced its first box office flop with Solo: A Star Wars Story. She oversaw the relaunch of the Star Wars franchise and introduced more female leads and characters from diverse backgrounds. Filoni will work alongside co-president Lynwen Brennan, while Kennedy will continue to produce upcoming films, including The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter.
