Mon, 19 Jan 2026 Hiring woes and 'super high' prices: Voters say Trump's progress on the US economy is mixed

We asked six Americans what they make of the US economy one year after President Trump returned to the White House.
Republican, Michigander: Sees improvement in economy since Trump's return, with lower prices for basic food items. Independent voter, father of 18-month-old boy: Cut down food budget due to rising childcare costs, feels that Trump doesn't tell the truth about the economy and would give him a 4 out of 10. Indiana Republican: Backs Trump but feels he was better off in his first administration, with lower prices for electricity and other goods. Independent voter, worried about economic collapse: Concerned about impact of Trump's foreign policy on US economy, including threats to Greenland and Nato. Registered Democrat: Unable to find work after graduating from university, despite a job market touted by the president as strong. Financial consultant: Finances are "marginally ahead" of last year but worries that gains won't last, with inflation being a major issue.
