Thu, 22 Jan 2026 Bezos' Blue Origin announces satellite rival to Musk's Starlink

Blue Origin will be focused on businesses and governments, while Starlink also offers services to individual customers.
Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos, plans to launch over 5,400 satellites to create a network called TeraWave, providing continuous internet access worldwide with faster data transfer speeds than rival services. The company aims to offer upload and download speeds of up to 6 terabits per second. This will target businesses, governments, and data centers, differing from Starlink's focus on individual customers. Although Blue Origin would have fewer satellites in orbit than Elon Musk's Starlink, its TeraWave network is expected to be faster. Amazon, led by Bezos, also has a satellite venture called Leo with over 180 satellites launched so far, planning for more than 3,000 in total.
