Fri, 23 Jan 2026 Post Office and Fujitsu accused of delaying £4m legal claim

Lee Castleton is taking legal action against his former employer over the Horizon IT scandal.
Lee Castleton, a former sub-postmaster, has taken the Post Office and Fujitsu to court over £4m in damages related to the Horizon IT scandal. He claims that the organisations have been trying to delay his case and drive up legal costs. The High Court heard that Fujitsu has already incurred £700,000 in legal expenses, while Castleton's own costs have reached £321,000. Castleton was one of 555 sub-postmasters who took the Post Office to court over faulty software that led to wrongful convictions for missing funds from their branches. They won their case in 2019 but did not receive proper compensation due to high legal costs. The court has ordered that Castleton's claim be split into two trials, which will likely increase costs and delay a resolution. The Post Office claims it is trying to save time and money by splitting the trial, while Castleton's lawyers argue that this will only add complexity to the case. Castleton wants the settlement agreement from 2019 to be set aside, alleging that it was obtained through "sharp practice" and fraud. He also claims that the Post Office conspired with Fujitsu to withhold evidence. The court has given no indication of when a verdict might be reached, but Castleton remains determined to get vindication for himself and his family, who have been affected by the scandal for 20 years.
