Trump has accused Seoul of "not living up" to a trade deal that was reached last year.
US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff increase on South Korean imports, accusing Seoul of failing to meet its obligations under a trade deal signed last year. The move affects a range of products including cars, lumber, and pharmaceuticals. According to reports, South Korea had not been formally notified of the decision and is seeking urgent talks with Washington. Shares in major South Korean exporters recovered later in the day as investors digested the news. The dispute centers around a deal signed last year which required Seoul to invest $350bn in the US economy. South Korea's Industry Minister will visit Washington soon to discuss the issue with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
