Tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have contributed to designing the courses, which are accessible to any adult in the UK and vary in length from 20 minutes to several hours. Some courses are free while others require payment. The government aims to reach 10 million workers by 2030 with this training program.
Critics argue that workers will need more than just basic AI skills to adapt to the changing workforce, citing the need for support in building judgment, critical thinking, and physical skills as well as leadership and confidence when using technology safely.
The NHS, British Chambers of Commerce, and Local Government Association are among those who have committed to encouraging their staff and members to sign up for the courses.
