* Industry trade body Water UK says companies are investing £20bn to secure water supplies and tackle sewage issues.
* The Consumer Council for Water is calling for a "stronger safety net" to support those struggling to pay their bills.
* Some 2.5 million households will be eligible for discounted social tariffs and other affordability measures, but the council says these schemes can be patchy and unfair.
