Mon, 02 Feb 2026 The 'fantastic' baby bundles not every mum will get

Baby boxes are being delivered to expectant families in some of Wales' most deprived areas.

* Some struggling families in Wales may miss out on baby bundles provided by the Welsh government, according to a charity.
* The bundles include essential items such as clothing, blankets, and a thermometer for newborns and six-month-olds.
* The program is targeted at disadvantaged areas but some expectant mothers are ineligible despite being in need of support.
* A Newport woman will be the first recipient of a baby bundle, delivered by Minister Dawn Bowden on February 2nd.
* Critics say the program should include more families and that it's "hugely beneficial" to have such assistance.
* Scotland has a similar program where all newborns are entitled to a box of essentials regardless of parental income or postcode since 2017.
* The Bevan Foundation wants the Welsh government to extend the scheme to at least all families receiving Universal Credit.
* Minister Dawn Bowden said the contents were chosen based on parent feedback and that the bundles also support jobs and businesses in Wales.
* Politicians from various parties have expressed their opinions, with some calling for a universal approach like Scotland's.
