Thu, 12 Feb 2026 Civil service pension backlog 'overwhelmed' Capita, boss says

Thousands of retiring civil servants have been left without pension payments causing hardship for some.

* Capita inherited a backlog of 86,000 cases from MyCSP but it has now grown to 120,000.
* Staff have increased from 400 to 750 since the handover, with some people waiting several hours on the phone for a response.
* Those affected include Julie Morton, who has terminal cancer and is struggling to access her pension, and Hazel Cranstoun, who runs a village shop in Scotland and relies on her civil service pension to clear debts.
* An emergency interest-free loan system has been set up but has been criticised as placing an additional burden on the public purse.
* The PCS union has called for dignity, certainty, and financial security in retirement for its members.
