A six-month listening exercise has taken place, giving support and advice to parents.
A schools project in Wolverhampton has discovered that poverty can have a significant impact on children's lives, limiting their participation in school activities due to financial constraints. The City of Wolverhampton Council, working with charity Children North East, spoke to 10 schools and identified concerns around costs associated with school trips, uniforms, and extracurricular activities. To address these issues, the council has offered advice and direct referrals to available support services, as well as financial assistance where possible. The aim is to ensure that no child misses out on educational opportunities due to lack of money. Some schools have already implemented changes based on the findings, such as providing more notice for school trips and highlighting support available for school uniforms. The project's findings will be shared with other schools in the area, emphasizing the importance of considering the financial needs of all families, regardless of income level.
