The Pavilion took to social media to reveal cost pressures
A recent social media post by The Pavilion restaurant in St Helier revealed the breakdown of its costs, including local ingredients, utilities, staffing, insurance, licensing, and rent. According to owner Zara Kramer, independent restaurants are "the soul of the community" but face significant challenges in making ends meet. The Government of Jersey acknowledges the impact of inflationary pressures on businesses, saying they cannot address UK inflation with interest rates. However, it is focusing on practical measures to help companies, including a Better Business Grant for employers wanting to improve productivity and skills. Independent restaurant owners like Muhammad Usman Meghani of Habibi Haus say making a profit in the industry is "quite difficult", often requiring long working hours. The Jersey Hospitality Association has called for base costs to be reduced and criticized government decisions that have created an "impossible environment" for businesses.
