Clothing Coventry has been operating since 2020, and needs £50,000 a year to keep the doors open.
A local charity, Clothing Coventry, which distributes free clothing to vulnerable individuals and families, is facing financial difficulties and may close by 2026 unless it receives an additional £50,000 per year in donations. The charity's founder, Katie Wilson, attributes the crisis to a decline in donations and rising costs of rent, overheads, and unexpected expenses such as last year's £6,000 heater replacement bill.
Despite its efforts to raise funds through weekly £5 donations from supporters, Clothing Coventry currently relies on just 12 donors. Wilson emphasized that more volunteers are needed to help the charity stay afloat. Mohammed, one of the charity's beneficiaries, praised their services and encouraged others in need to visit them.
Other organizations in Coventry have also expressed appreciation for Clothing Coventry's work. Liza Colledge from Her Safe Network commended the charity's "irreplaceable" contribution to restoring dignity to vulnerable individuals. Wilson attributed the financial strain to paying full rent on properties owned by Coventry City Council and the absence of any rent reduction or business rate relief.
The charity receives an average of £60 per week in donations, but more is required to cover ongoing costs and respond to emergencies.
