Tue, 24 Feb 2026 FedEx sues for Trump tariff refund

The recent US Supreme Court ruling that President Trump overstepped his powers when he imposed global tariffs paved the way for companies to seek a refund.
FedEx has filed a lawsuit against the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Trump administration seeking a "full refund" of tariffs imposed on imports under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The company claims it paid for the tariffs, which were deemed unlawful by the Supreme Court last week. FedEx is not specifying how much money it is seeking in the lawsuit. On Monday, 22 US Senators introduced legislation requiring the Trump administration to refund all tariff revenue with interest within 180 days. The bill also prioritizes small businesses in receiving refunds. It's estimated that the tariffs have generated over $130bn (£97bn) for the Trump administration. The Supreme Court ruling did not provide guidance on returning money to those who paid the tariffs, and both Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it could take years to resolve the issue through the courts.
