Last year the Daily Mail and General Trust proposed to buy the company in a £500m takeover.

* Axel Springer agreed to purchase Telegraph Media Group (TMG) for £575m
* Deal trumps earlier proposed takeover by Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) worth £500m
* TMG owns The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Telegraph Magazine, website, and app
* Axel Springer CEO Mathias Dopfner vows to "preserve the distinctive character and legacy" of the Telegraph
* Company will back investment programme for growth and expansion in UK and US markets
* Acquisition is Axel Springer's largest purchase after Politico acquisition in 2021 for £750m
* TMG has been without an owner since 2023 due to debts owed by previous owners, the Barclay brothers
* Several attempts to buy group have fallen through over years, including from RedBird Capital and Daily Mail.
