Mon, 16 Mar 2026 Guernsey project links surplus food to households

SOS Guernsey Food Angel says it wants to reduce waste while helping families access affordable food.

* The initiative uses online and mobile app platforms to offer "magic bags" of fresh food at reduced prices or free of charge.
* Approximately 1,500 tonnes of food are wasted in Guernsey each year, while over 1,000 households struggle to access affordable food.
* Businesses can register for free and the platform will manage payments securely.
* The initiative also aims to remove the stigma around asking for help by providing dignity-assured support.
* Surprise bags of fresh food will be offered shortly before shops' closing or before food expiry dates.
