Thu, 26 Mar 2026 Port Talbot to become offshore wind hub for Celtic Sea

Port operator ABP will begin work on developing a facility to assemble and launch turbines out to sea.

* Port Talbot will become the first dedicated hub for floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea.
* Associated British Ports (ABP) has secured up to £64m in grant funding from the UK government to support the development of a new port infrastructure.
* The project could support thousands of jobs and attract hundreds of millions of pounds in further investment.
* Offshore wind is expected to play a major role in meeting future electricity demand, reducing reliance on volatile global oil and gas markets.
* Floating offshore wind technology allows turbines to be installed far from the shore, unlocking areas with high wind resources in Europe.
* The new facilities in Port Talbot will help unlock at least 4.5 GW of new generating capacity, enough to power about 6.5 million homes.
* ABP estimates that the project could support more than £500m in associated investment and thousands of direct and indirect jobs once construction begins.
* Business groups have previously argued that securing a major offshore wind port would be central to attracting new industries and supply chain companies to the area.
* Local residents and politicians welcome the news, citing potential job creation and economic benefits for Port Talbot.
