Thu, 02 Apr 2026 Families struggling to get by due to price rises

Bills including council tax, water, internet and broadband have increased, as well as food and fuel.
Parents in the area are finding it hard to balance their budgets, especially during holidays like Easter when children want to spend money on treats. Dan James from Telford said: "It's really hard to get by sometimes, even if you're on a good wage." Karen Fear added that she's working three part-time jobs but still can't afford to live due to high taxes and rising costs. The issue isn't limited to Shropshire, with families nationwide struggling to cope. In Birmingham, Lisa Hirst said her council tax has increased by £10 a month despite not having had her recycling cleared in over a year. She added that the rising cost of living is making it impossible for her to afford food and other essentials.
