The US president called on nations that need Gulf oil to take the lead to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

* Oil prices rose: + Brent crude: +4.8% to $106.02 per barrel + West Texas Intermediate oil: +4% to around $104 per barrel
* Stock markets fell: + Nikkei 225 (Japan): -1.9% + Kospi (South Korea): -3.5% + Hang Seng (Hong Kong): -1%
* US stock futures down: + Dow Jones: around -1% lower + S&P 500: around -1% lower + Nasdaq: around -1.4% lower
