Fri, 03 Apr 2026 French-owned ship passes through Strait of Hormuz

It appears to be the first ship owned by a major European firm to go through the strait since the conflict began.

* A French-owned ship has passed through the Strait of Hormuz, more than a month after the US-Israeli conflict with Iran effectively closed the route.
* It is the first major Western European-owned ship to do so since the conflict began.
* The ship was carrying an unspecified cargo and was tracked passing close to Oman's coast on its way out of the strait.
* A Japanese ship also successfully navigated the strait, carrying natural gas.
* Several other ships that made it through the strait hugged unusually close to the coast of Oman.
* Traffic through the strait is down about 95% compared to before the conflict, but has not stopped altogether, with around 5-6 ships passing through per day.
* About a third of these ships have links to Iran.
