Mon, 06 Apr 2026 Charity 'feels the pinch' of higher energy prices

The Felix Project is among the organisations feeling the effects of increased costs due to the conflict in Iran.
Higher energy and fuel prices, driven by the conflict in the Middle East, are hitting charities like The Felix Project hard. The charity's COO Shane Dorsett said they will feel a pinch due to increased costs of chilling and freezing food. With 60 vans on the road, there are concerns about logistics. The Felix Project, which rescued 18,000 tonnes of surplus food last year, is not alone in struggling with rising costs. Fitbakes, a bakery based in Paddington, said it's now focused on survival after years of steady growth. Businesses and charities are calling for government support as the situation continues to unfold. The Labour government has announced extra money to help people who use heating oil, but businesses are still feeling the strain. A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesperson said the government is working to end the conflict and tackle the affordability crisis.
