Fri, 17 Apr 2026 Tinder and Zoom offer 'proof of humanity' eye-scans to combat AI

The tech aims to identify people's irises and stop the rise of fake accounts and malicious scams.
Tinder will introduce iris-scanning technology to verify users' humanity, with plans to offer a "proof of humanity" badge on profiles. Users can scan their irises through an online app or an orb-shaped device run by World Network, a start-up co-founded by Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI. The verification process will award a unique identification code, known as a World ID, which can be stored on users' smartphones. This new technology aims to combat fake profiles and malicious accounts, particularly in dating apps like Tinder, where AI-generated scripts are used to scam people out of money or personal information. Romance scams cost Americans over $1 billion last year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. The integration with World ID will be an additional verification method for users on Tinder. Zoom is also partnering with World Network to use this technology to prevent sophisticated deepfakes of known individuals from being used to scam people in video conferences. The company behind the iris-scanning technology, previously named Worldcoin and then World Network, claims that 18 million people have been verified through World ID so far, using their verification over 450 million times.
