A petition is calling for struggling Denby Pottery to be added to a government support scheme.
A petition has been launched calling on the government to include the ceramics industry in a financial support scheme. Over 40,000 people have signed the petition so far, with more than 60,000 needed for it to be considered for debate in Parliament. The campaign is led by Hayley Baddiley, a former Denby Pottery employee, who argues that the industry's high energy and labour costs make it eligible for support. Baddiley claims that the ceramics sector employs over 20,000 people across the UK and contributes £2 billion to the economy. She believes including the industry in the British Industry Supercharger scheme would help protect firms from financial difficulties. The petition has been backed by local MP Linsey Farnsworth, who says it will be taken directly to government colleagues as a key factor in attracting new investors for Denby Pottery.
