Wed, 29 Apr 2026 Irish government announces further fuel supports after protests

The Irish government has announced further fuel supports for a number of sectors after nationwide protests in recent weeks.
Fuel Supports Scheme
* €120m (£104m) package for hauliers and bus/coach operators
* Backdated to March, applies when average national diesel prices exceeded €1.90/litre (£1.65)
* Payments graduated based on number of vehicles: + 1-5 vehicles: €1,350/vehicle (£1,170) + 6-20 vehicles: €790/vehicle (£685) + over 21 vehicles: €300/vehicle (£260) Fuel Support Scheme (for farmers/agricultural contractors/fishers)
* €100m (£87m) package
* Backdated to March-July, supports those impacted by hikes in green diesel prices
* Equivalent to 20 euro cents/litre or €200/1,000 litres of marked gas oil (green diesel) Total fuel supports spending
* €755m (£654m) in recent months Communications campaign
* Irish government launching campaign with advice on managing energy costs for households and businesses
