Tue, 05 May 2026 Nissan to close UK line and cut 900 European jobs

Nissan says it is considering working with a third party to fully utilise its Sunderland plant.

* Nissan will stop using one UK production line and cut 900 jobs in Europe.
* The company is merging two production lines at its Sunderland plant, but says no jobs will be lost through this change.
* However, around 10% of Nissan's European workforce (about 900 people) will lose their jobs as part of the company's RE:Nissan recovery plan.
* Some UK-based office roles are also included in the job cuts.
* The consolidation of production on a single line is expected to leave space for another manufacturer to take over and build cars at the Sunderland site.
