Wed, 06 May 2026 Apple to pay up to $95 to some US iPhone buyers over AI lawsuit

Claims from last year said the tech firm’s advertising of Apple Intelligence fooled iPhone buyers.
The settlement, filed in California federal court, resolves claims in a consolidated class action lawsuit filed last year. Apple did not admit wrongdoing but will pay between $25-$95 to those who bought an iPhone 15 or 16 between June 2024 and March 2025. According to lawyers, Apple's marketing of its AI features was false advertising, as it promoted capabilities that do not exist or never existed. The company allegedly undertook this campaign to catch up with rival companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. The settlement comes as outgoing CEO Tim Cook prepares to step down after 15 years at the helm.
