Wed, 06 May 2026 Cathedral to help run food share scheme in city

Hereford Cathedral says it will provide operational support to help the "incredible volunteers".
A local charity, South Wye Foodshare, has formed a partnership with Hereford Cathedral to help provide food and support to those in need. The charity collects unsold, but still edible food from supermarkets and distributes it to around 600 people every week. In addition to providing free food, the charity also offers advice and companionship to its service users. The cathedral's commercial manager, Kirsty Price, said that their role is to provide governance and operational support to the charity, allowing volunteers to focus on what they do best. The charity has outgrown its original church location and needed a new space, which it now occupies at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs on Belmont Road. Core volunteer Cat Hornsey explained that the biggest help the cathedral can offer is assistance with paperwork, as this can be a time-consuming task for volunteers. With the cathedral's support, the charity aims to continue providing vital services to its community. The charity operates at several locations around Hereford, including Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church on Mondays, Belmont Community Centre on Fridays, and Pomona Place every day from 22:00 BST.
