The finance watchdog warns bogus brokers are selling fake car insurance through social media.
* Half of young drivers (16-25) have bought car insurance policies through social media or messaging apps, many of which are fake.
* These "ghost brokers" sell suspiciously cheap policies that can leave victims driving without valid insurance, risking prosecution, fines, and having their car seized.
* The FCA warns that driving without valid insurance is a criminal offense in the UK.
* Many victims have been targeted by scammers posing as legitimate insurance sellers, offering cheap rates for fake or invalid policies.
* Research from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) found that many "policies" are cancelled soon after purchase and some are completely bogus.
* The FCA is working with social media influencers to warn young drivers about the growing threat of ghost broking and has launched a specialist team to hunt down scammers online.
